This Code of Ethics and Financial Disclosure
Law is enacted pursuant to Article 18 of the General Municipal Law
in recognition of the policy of the Town of Islip to maintain the
highest standards of integrity and public service. It is intended
to afford Town officers and employees guidance in conforming to ethical
standards, to provide a formula of conduct which is not only clear
but reasonable, to promote public confidence in the integrity of Town
government, to require public disclosure of financial interests that
may influence or be perceived as influencing actions of Town officers
and employees and to provide for the fair and effective administration
of this code. The enactment of this Code of Ethics and Financial Disclosure
Law and the promulgation of a form of annual statement of financial
disclosure is expressly intended to constitute an election to opt
out of the provisions of General Municipal Law § 812, in
accordance with the provisions of General Municipal Law § 811.
