In order to protect the public health, safety
and welfare and to provide access to buildings for fire-fighting equipment
and other emergency vehicles the Chief of the Chatham Borough Fire
Department is authorized to establish fire zones pursuant to the provisions
of N.J.S.A. 40A:14-53.
The areas set forth in Schedule I attached to
and made a part of this chapter have been established by the Chief
of the Chatham Borough Fire Department as fire zones. The Chief of
the Chatham Borough Fire Department may from time to time designate
additional areas as fire zones, which fire zones, when made a part
of Schedule I of this chapter according to law in such cases made
and provided, shall also be subject to the provisions of this chapter.
Appropriate no-parking signs shall be erected by the Borough in accordance with the provisions of Title 39, Chapter 4, of the Revised Statutes of New Jersey, as amended and supplemented, designating the areas described in §
148-5.
All fire zones described in Schedule I shall
be free of all obstructions. Parking of motor vehicles in said fire
zones is strictly prohibited at all times, except that attended commercial
vehicles may stop temporarily to load and unload in designated loading
areas.
In accordance with the provisions of §
148-2, the following areas are established as fire zones:
A. The areas designated as fire zones, including loading
areas, on the drawing entitled "Acme Shopping Center Fire Zones, Block
31, Lots 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 38, 39, 40 and 41," dated February 20,
1976, a copy of which drawing is annexed hereto and made a part hereof.
B. The areas designated as fire zones on the drawing
entitled "Chatham Methodist Church Fire Zones, Block 34, Lot 31-1,"
dated February 20, 1976, a copy of which drawing is annexed hereto
and made a part hereof.1
C. The areas
designated as fire zones on the drawing entitled “Chatham Train
Station Improvements – Signing & Striping Plan - Fire Zone
Map” for Block 91, Lot 1, dated November 21, 2012, a copy of
which is annexed hereto and made a part hereof.

Any person who is found guilty of violating or failing to comply with any provisions of this chapter shall be punishable as provided in Chapter
1, §
1-14.
