The Council shall appoint a Township Clerk for the term prescribed by law. Prior to his or her appointment, the Clerk shall have complied with such requirements as may be required by law to assume the office of the Township Clerk. The Township Clerk shall serve as Clerk of the Council and have such other functions, powers and duties as are provided by the Code of the Township of Brick.
A. 
The Township Clerk, appointed by the Council, shall:
(1) 
Keep the minutes and records of the proceedings of the Council, and of any Council committees upon request of the Chair of the committee.
(2) 
Preserve and compile all ordinances and resolutions, and, at the close of each year, with the advice and assistance of the Township Attorney, the Clerk shall compile, codify and bind all the ordinances and resolutions then in effect, in conformity with the plan and system of the Code of the Township of Brick, and the Clerk shall properly index the record books, compilation or codification of ordinances and resolutions and provide for their publication.
(3) 
Have custody of the Township Seal and affix it to such books, papers and documents as may be authorized pursuant to law.
(4) 
Have and take custody of all official books, papers, maps and documents of the Township for which no other repository is provided by the Charter or ordinance and preserve and keep them safely.
(5) 
Provide office space, secretarial and clerical services for the Council members in the discharge of their official duties.
B. 
All Council members desiring that certain administrative action is taken on a matter or certain information is made available to said Council members shall transmit, in writing, through the Township Clerk, their requests to the Mayor and department head, and said request is to be acknowledged within five days of receipt, and the desired information is to be furnished within a reasonable time.
There is hereby created within the office of the Township Clerk the position of Assistant Township Clerk, who shall be under the supervision and control of the Township Clerk and shall perform such duties and responsibilities as may be from time to time assigned by the Township Clerk. In the absence of the Township Clerk, the Assistant Township Clerk shall perform those functions, powers and duties as are set forth in § 2-42 of this chapter.
A. 
There is hereby created within the office of the Township Clerk the office of Acting Township Clerk. During the absence or disability of the Township Clerk, the Council may appoint an Acting Township Clerk who shall have the functions, powers and duties of the Township Clerk.
B. 
The Acting Township Clerk shall be appointed by the Township Council in the manner and for the terms provided for in the general law.
