It is the purpose of this chapter to establish a Code of Ethics
setting forth standards of conduct for the officers and employees
of the Village of Amityville.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the
meanings indicated:
OFFICER or EMPLOYEE
An officer or employee of the Village of Amityville, whether
paid or unpaid, including members of any administrative commission
or other agency thereof. No person shall be deemed to be a Village
"officer or employee" solely by reason of being a volunteer fireman
or civil defense volunteer, except a Chief Engineer or Assistant Chief
Engineer.
Every officer and employee of the Village of Amityville shall
be subject to and abide by the following standards of conduct:
A. To
the extent that he knows thereof, an officer or employee who participates
in the discussion or gives official opinion to the Board of Trustees
on any legislation pending before it shall publicly disclose to the
Board of Trustees the nature and extent of any direct or indirect
pecuniary or material benefit which would accrue to him from the enactment
or failure of enactment of such legislation.
B. He
shall not invest or hold any investment directly or indirectly which
creates a conflict of interest with his official duties.
C. He
shall not engage in, solicit, negotiate for or promise to accept private
employment or render services for private interests when such employment
or service creates a conflict of interest with or impairs the proper
discharge of his official duties.
D. He
shall not, after termination of his employment or service with the
Village of Amityville, appear before any board or agency of the Village
in relation to any case, proceeding or application in which he personally
participated during the period of his employment or service or which
was under his active consideration.
