In cases of practical difficulty or unnecessary hardship, the Electrical Inspection Authority is hereby granted discretionary powers to permit deviation from the provisions of this chapter, provided that such a proposal to deviate is first submitted in writing for proper determination in order that safety requirements, as they pertain to electrical equipment, shall be obtained.
A detailed set of plans and specifications shall be submitted with the application for a building permit for any wiring or alterations to the electrical system, including the fire alarm system, in all buildings using over six circuits except single- and two-family dwellings. The electrical drawings shall include such details as lighting layout, circuiting, switching, conductor and raceway sizes, wattage schedule, fire alarm panel location, service location and riser diagram, calculations and proposed method of construction drawn with symbols of standard form. All conductors are assumed to be copper unless otherwise stated on the plan. Specifications, when provided, shall also include this information. The selection of suitable disconnect and overcurrent devices to provide proper coordination and interrupting capacity for wiring system is the responsibility of the designer. The Electrical Inspection Authority, when approving electrical plans, assumes no responsibility for the design nor any deviations from any applicable codes not explicitly agreed upon at the time of approval of electrical drawings. Approval of drawings during plan review are subject to subsequent approval during field inspection on the job site by the Electrical Inspector.
A request for electrical inspection shall be made at least 24 hours prior to the needed inspection.
No person shall conceal or cause to be concealed any wiring or electrical equipment before it has been approved by the Electrical Inspector.
A plan approved by the Electrical Inspection Authority or a certified copy thereof, where required, shall be available for the use of the Electrical Inspector as long as construction is in progress under the permit related to the plans.
The Electrical Inspector reserves the right to require an occupational licensed representative of the contractor to be on the job site when inspection is made. A licensed electrical journeyman or master electrician shall be present at all times that electrical construction is in progress. A licensed fire alarm specialty technician shall be present at all times that fire alarm system construction and installation or checkout are in progress. A licensed sign specialist shall be present at all times when sign construction and installation is in progress.
The Electrical Inspection Authority shall not be responsible for code interpretations or other information relative to electrical installations give over the phone. Requests for such information should be made in person or in writing.
Electrical equipment for such places as carnivals, convention displays and product and street shows shall require a permit for inspection, and approval must be obtained prior to the time of opening. For special requirements, consult the Electrical Inspection Authority.
A request for a certificate of final inspection from the person to whom the permit was issued shall be honored only after the installation has been tested with current on the wires and all electrical equipment permanently installed. In the case of fire alarm systems, the supervision and function of the system shall be inspected and approved by the Electrical Inspector before a certificate may be issued.
