The purpose of this chapter is to specifically establish the Office of Disaster and Emergency Services in the Town of Cortlandt pursuant to the New York State Defense Emergency Act[1] and other statutes of the state and county governments.

The Deputy Local Director of the Office of Disaster and Emergency Services shall be recommended by the Supervisor in accordance with the state and county directives and shall serve without salary unless the Town Board otherwise directs. The Deputy Local Director shall also serve as the head of the Town of Cortlandt Auxiliary Police.
The Office of Disaster and Emergency Services shall have all the powers and obligations as may be imposed upon it by the state and county governments and shall be the liaison department between the Town of Cortlandt and state and county agencies of the same nature.
