The Board of Supervisors of Rappahannock County at the time of adoption
of this chapter consists of five members, all of whom are elected by individual
election district for a term of four years at the same general election held
in November. The purpose of this chapter is to stagger said four-year terms
by providing that after an initial two-year term for each of two members,
those two members shall thereafter each be elected at one general election
for a four-year term, and the other three members shall each be elected at
the general election held two years later for a four-year term.
The electoral board shall assign two election districts from which the
member of the Board of Supervisors shall serve a two-year term, said term
to begin on January 1, 2008, and end on December 31, 2009. The election for
this two-year term of office shall be the general election held in November
2007. The two election districts shall be selected by drawing at a meeting
held by the electoral board prior to the last day for a person to qualify
as a candidate for the Board of Supervisors for the general election held
in November 2007. After such two-year term, the term of office for each Supervisor
from the two selected election districts shall revert to four years beginning
on January 1, 2010, said Supervisor to be elected at the election held in
November 2009.
The Supervisors from the remaining three election districts shall continue
to serve four-year terms and continue to be elected on the schedule provided
by law prior to the adoption of this chapter; to wit: the next election for
their offices will be held in November 2007, and every four years thereafter.
The County of Rappahannock, having an elected School Board consisting
of five members elected from the same election districts as the five Supervisors
and at the same time the Supervisors are elected, upon this chapter becoming
effective the term of office and time of election of each member of the School
Board shall coincide with, and be the same as, the term of office and time
of election for the member of the Board of Supervisors from his or her election
district.
