It is the intent and purpose of this chapter to establish an efficient system for the identification of specific locations in the Town of Somers by emergency personnel.
The owner of each residential, commercial or industrial building shall affix to such building the street number of such building as assigned by the Town in the manner herein specified:

Such number shall be at least three inches in height and contrast in color to the building.
B.
The number shall be visible from the street to which it relates.
C.
It shall be affixed either at the top or to the side of the most main entrance of the building facing that street. If the building is more than 100 feet from the road or if the number on the building is not clearly visible from the street, an additional like number shall be displayed on either a mailbox, post or fence, along the street line, clearly identifying the property. If affixed on a mailbox, such number shall be placed on both sides of said box.

For apartments, condominiums, industrial and commercial buildings, each principal building shall bear the number assigned the frontage on which the front entrance is located. In case a principal building is occupied by more than one business or family dwelling unit, each separate front entrance of such principal building shall bear a separate number or letter (A, B, C, etc.).

Any person who violates this chapter shall be fined in an amount not to exceed twenty-five dollars ($25.) for each violation, with each day to be considered a separate violation. However, any violations cited within sixty (60) days of the effective date of this chapter shall be given a warning only.

The Building Inspector or his/her designated agents shall be responsible for enforcing the provisions and carrying out the intent of this chapter.
