The Mayor shall appoint one Assessor to a slx-year
term. Pursuant to the NYS Real Property Tax Law, the terms for appointive
assessors shall commence on the first day of October, 1971, and each
sixth year thereafter. Said appointee shall meet the minimum requirements
for assessors set forth in state law. The Assessor shall receive such
salary as recommended by the Board of Managers and approved by the
Common Council.
The Assessor shall perform all the duties specified in this
Charter in relation to the assessment and taxation of property within
the City and shall possess all the powers conferred and be subject
to all the obligations and duties imposed pursuant to law. The Assessor
shall perform the duties relating to the assessment of property for
the purposes of levying taxes and assessments for local improvements
pursuant to law. All adjustments to assessments must be reviewed and
approved by the Assessor.
