The performance of a wedding or a civil union is not an obligation of
the position of the Mayor but rather is a discretionary authority vested in
the Mayor. The Mayor may determine in his absolute discretion whether he will
perform any weddings or civil unions. The Mayor, in his discretion, may waive
any fee for a wedding or civil union.
In the event the Mayor performs a marriage or civil union ceremony,
he shall collect a fee in an amount not to exceed $150 for ceremonies taking
place within Borough Hall. For any wedding taking place within the municipality,
but not in Borough Hall, the fee shall be at least $150 but may not exceed
$250. For any weddings taking place outside the Borough of Palisades Park,
the fee shall be a minimum of $250 and a maximum of $350.
All fees must be made payable to the municipality and deposited into
the current fund.
The Mayor shall advise the Chief Financial Officer of the municipality
of all weddings or civil unions performed and shall request payment to him
for the service performed by the Mayor and reimbursement for all out-of-pocket
expenses of the Mayor.
The payments to the Mayor for the performance of weddings or civil unions
shall be additional salary to the Mayor and shall hereinafter be listed as
part of the Borough Salary Ordinance.
