Pursuant to Section II of the Uniform Fire Safety
Act (P.L. 1983, c. 383), the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code shall be locally enforced
in the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights.
The local enforcing agency shall be the Fire
Prevention Bureau of the Fire Department of the Borough of Hasbrouck
Heights.
The local enforcing agency established by §
139-2 of this article shall carry out the periodic inspections of life-hazard uses required by the Uniform Fire Code on behalf of the Commissioner of Community Affairs.

A. Appointment of Fire Official. The local enforcing
agency shall be under the direct supervision of a Fire Official who
shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the consent of the Council and
upon the advice of the Chiefs of the Fire Department.
B. Term of office; vacancies. The Fire Official shall
serve for a term of one year, concurrent with the calendar year. Any
vacancy shall be filled for the unexpired term in the manner hereinbefore
provided.
C. Inspectors and employees. Such inspectors and other
employees as may be necessary in the local enforcing agency shall
be appointed by the Mayor, with the consent of the Council and upon
the advice of the Fire Official, for a term of one year, concurrent
with the calendar year.
D. Removal from office. The Fire Official, inspectors
and other employees of the enforcing agency shall be subject to removal
by the Mayor and Council for inefficiency, misconduct or other good
cause. Each inspector or employee to be so removed shall be afforded
an opportunity to be heard by the appointing authority or a designated
hearing officer.
Pursuant to Sections 15 and 17 of the Uniform
Fire Safety Act, any person aggrieved by any order of the local enforcing
agency shall have the right to appeal to the Construction Board of
Appeals of the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights.
