As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
FIRE LANE/FIRE APPARATUS ACCESS ROAD
That portion of the cartway or roadway immediately surrounding a building which must be kept open at all times in order for fire or other emergency equipment to operate effectively in case of fire or other emergency. Said fire lane/fire apparatus access road is to be 20 feet in width, extending outward from the curbstone or walkway normally used by pedestrians, and shall have an unobstructed vertical clearance of not less than 13 feet six inches.
It shall be unlawful for any person, at any time, to park, leave standing or allow a vehicle to be parked or to remain standing in any fire lane/fire apparatus access road as herein established by this chapter.
Official signs shall be placed along and facing the said fire lane/fire apparatus access road, which signs shall read "Fire Lane - No Parking" or "Stopping of Vehicles Prohibited." Said signs shall be placed at intervals no greater than 25 feet. The curbstone or end of the pedestrian walkway shall be painted yellow. Also, the area extending outward from the curbstone or walkway six feet shall be painted with yellow slash marks, with "No Parking" written within it.
Any person who shall violate any of the provisions hereof shall, upon summary conviction thereof before a Magisterial District Judge, be sentenced to pay a fine of $25 and the cost of prosecution and, in default of payment thereof, shall undergo imprisonment for a term not to exceed five days.
Nothing herein shall supersede or preclude enforcement of the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Code.[1]
