The town will provide a general awareness training and education program
on the subject of substance and alcohol abuse. The regulation requires at
least 60 minutes of awareness training.
For 30 days after completion of the general awareness training, any
town employee may, during this period, voluntarily contact his/her department
head to obtain assistance in dealing with a drug or alcohol problem through
the substance abuse professional (SAP) without disciplinary action being taken.
Employees may seek voluntary assistance at any time; however, employees who
seek voluntary assistance subsequent to notification of a required test shall
still be required to submit to such test and will remain subject to discipline
upon a positive test result.
