A. 
The Board of Trustees deems it in the best interests of the village to establish an official commission to study the environment in and around the village, and to make recommendations to the Board of Trustees regarding actions to be taken by the village to protect and improve the environment.
B. 
The Board of Trustees deems it desirable that a representative group of citizens be designated to serve in the interests of the public, without compensation, to make such studies and render such reports in connection with environmental matters, and in such other environmental matters as may be referred to it by the Board of Trustees.

A. 
There hereby is created an Environmental Commission consisting of nine members to be appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the majority of the Board of Trustees. Each member's term shall be for one or two years, at the discretion of the Mayor with the approval of the majority of the Board of Trustees, in order to ensure the continuity and experience of the Commission. A member of the Board of Trustees shall be appointed as one of the nine members of the Environmental Commission and shall serve as its Chair.
B. 
At its discretion, the Board of Trustees may appoint up to nine alternate members to serve in alphabetical rotation in place of any members of the Commission who are unable to attend any particular meeting of the Commission. The alternate members of the Commission shall have all of the powers and duties of regular members at such times as the alternate members are serving. Alternate members shall be appointed for terms of one year.
A. 
The Environmental Commission shall:
(1) 
Investigate, inquire into and report to the Board of Trustees any perceived threats to the environment of the village and shall recommend to the Board of Trustees methods to resolve such threats.
(2) 
Work with other groups regarding issues affecting larger geographic areas that have impacts on the village's environment and shall recommend to the Board of Trustees methods to address such issues.
(3) 
Recommend to the Board of Trustees ways to inform village residents of environmental information necessary to promote the protection and improvement of the village's environment.
(4) 
Investigate, inquire into and report to the Board of Trustees on all matters which may be referred to it for investigation and report by the Board of Trustees.
B. 
The Environmental Commission may request assistance from the Board of Trustees which may, at its discretion, assign to the Environmental Commission any employee of the village to assist the Environmental Commission in performing its functions.
The Environmental Commission shall appoint one of its members to act as recording secretary to keep a public record of the minutes of all of its meetings, its resolutions, findings and determinations. The Chair shall be responsible for notice of all Environmental Commission meetings.
