The Town realizes and understands the importance of preservation and
protection of the natural resources that enable its residents, property owners,
and visitors to occupy and comfortably enjoy their stay within the Town. It
is therefore established that, in order to preserve and protect the water
supply that lies beneath our soils, the Town does hereby adopt and will enforce
the following Wellhead Protection Plan of the Town of Warwick.
The various departments of the Town shall report all observed and potential
spills and releases in the Town to the Town Supervisor as soon as possible
and then to the Town Engineer,. so that the threat from contamination can
be assessed and the appropriate measures to protect the water supply can be
implemented. If the Town is responsible for the release, the Town will notify
the New York State Spills Hotline and work with the New York State Department
of Environmental Conservation to remediate the spill. Otherwise, the Town
will cooperate with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation
to ensure that the natural resources of the Town are protected.
