No person shall be appointed a police officer
of the Police Department of the Borough of Park Ridge without possessing
the requisite qualifications described by the applicable statutes
of the State of New Jersey and the entrance requirements as promulgated
herein.
In order to be eligible for appointment to the
position of police officer, each applicant shall:
A. Be a citizen of the United States.
B. Be of sound body and of good health sufficient to
satisfy the Board of Trustees of the Police and Fireman's Retirement
System of New Jersey as to their eligibility for membership in the
retirement system.
C. Be able to read, write, and speak the English language
well and intelligently.
D. Be of good moral character and have not been convicted
of any criminal offense involving moral turpitude.
E. Be a resident of the State of New Jersey.
F. Be a graduate of a high school or vocational high
school or possess an approved high school equivalent certificate.

G. Be at least 18 years old and not more than 35, as
of the closing date of the required civil service examination.
Except as specifically provided otherwise in
this chapter, no person shall be appointed to the Police Department
unless they shall have:
A. Filed a written application on the form prescribed
by the New Jersey Department of Personnel for the position in the
Park Ridge Police Department.
B. Submitted Police Department forms and supporting documents
completed, as requested by the Chief of Police.

C. Qualified by passing the required Department of Personnel
entrance tests, including written, oral, medical and physical examinations.
D. Submitted to and passed a medical, oral, physical
and psychological examination as directed by the Borough.
E. Been certified for appointment in accordance with
the Department of Personnel rules.
F. Met all other minimum requirements enumerated in this
chapter.
