The following regulations are adopted in accordance with the provisions of MGL C. 111, § 31, as amended.
All vehicles must have a town sticker to enter the town disposal area.
Hours for the disposal area are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., May 1 to October 31; and 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. November 1 to April 30.
The disposal area will be open seven (7) days a week, including holidays, with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
A fee shall be charged for all commercial vehicles and passenger cars. Commercial vehicles with personal household rubbish will be admitted to the area at no additional charge if they meet requirements for a town sticker.
"Residential household trash" is defined as any rubbish, refuse or garbage that is normally generated from a dwelling used for human habitation by the owner of said property or by a tenant of said property.
All legal residents/real estate taxpayers will be admitted with their town sticker. These are available at the gatehouse at the disposal area and at the Dennis Town Offices during the spring and summer months. Proof of residency and/or payment of taxes must be presented with the registration of the motor vehicle. The sticker is good only for the vehicle registration it is issued to for the period of one (1) year.
All nonresidents residing and/or staying in the Town of Dennis who do not purchase a town sticker may purchase a temporary pass at the gatehouse at the disposal area.
During the months of May and October, the landfill will accept trees and brush at no extra charge from local residents and taxpayers who show evidence of holding a residential landfill sticker. The maximum size vehicle allowed for this purpose will be a two-wheel trailer or pickup truck. Said trees and brush should be the result of noncommercial efforts only.
"Commercial trash" is defined as any rubbish, refuse, bulky waste or garbage that is generated from business, industry, construction, demolition and motels or rental cottages.
"Bulky waste" is defined as large items of refuse, such as appliances, furniture, auto parts, stumps, trees, branches and brush.
All commercial rubbish packers will stencil or paint their maximum capacity in cubic yards on the driver's side of their vehicles.
All loads from commercial packers must come from the Town of Dennis. The contents of all packers' trucks will be spotchecked at frequent intervals. If any portion of their load comes from a town other than Dennis, the packer's license shall be suspended for a period of thirty (30) days. The second offense will result in a one (1) year suspension.
All loads coming into the disposal area must be covered.
Only wastes collected in the Town of Dennis will be permitted in the landfill area.
All building material, whether new or from demolished structures, shall be broken or cut into lengths not over four (4) feet and disposed of in the designated areas.
All cardboard, paper or garbage must be bundled or tied or confined in bags.
All trees and large brush shall be disposed of in lengths not to exceed four (4) feet or shall be shredded and disposed of in designated areas.
All garbage and leaves shall be separated. No garbage will be left in the leaves section.
No leaves or garbage, cardboard or papers will be left in the metal or building material area.
Any one tampering with or damaging the gate at the disposal area or disposing of garbage in front of the gate will be subject to prosecution.
No promiscuous dumping, salvaging or foraging will be permitted.
As a condition of using the landfill, the owner, operator or person in charge of a vehicle transporting refuse shall, upon request, submit evidence of or answer questions concerning the origin or nature of the materials to be disposed of.
Any items taken from the Quonset Hut are not to be sold.
Please attach your disposal area sticker to the driver's side of your front bumper.
Whoever, himself or by his servant or agent or as the servant or agent of any other person or any firm or corporation, violates the above regulations shall be punished by a fine of not more than fifty dollars ($50.).
If any article, regulation, paragraph, sentence, clause or phrase of these regulations shall be declared invalid for any reason whatsoever, that decision shall not affect any other portion of these regulations, which shall remain in full force and effect and to this end, the provisions of these regulations are hereby declared severable.
Fees shall be as promulgated by the Board of Health. Current fees are on file in the office of the Town Clerk.
