The owners or occupants of houses, dwellings and buildings in the City
of Scranton and all persons who erect houses, residences, and other buildings
within the City of Scranton after this chapter becomes effective, are hereby
required to attach an assigned street number displayed in position easily
observed and readable from the public right-of-way or street. All numbers
shall be in arabic numerals (e.g., 1, 2, 3, etc.) at least three inches (76
millimeters) high and 1/2 inches (13 millimeters) stroke. Those owners or
occupants who already have an assigned street numbers are to continue to use
the same unless the City shall direct otherwise. Script numbering and other
forms of numbering shall not be used due to the difficulty of reading.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings
indicated:
DWELLING
A residential building or unit occupied by persons other that its
owner, such as tenants.
HOUSE
A residential building or unit occupied by its owner.
OTHER BUILDINGS
Includes commercial, industrial, nonprofit, or religious structures
within the City of Scranton.
The example of the BOCA Property Maintenance Code, Section 304.3, entitled
"street numbers," is hereby adopted, as an example for compliance, and incorporated
herein by references as though set forth herein at length.
The City Engineer or his designee will designate free of charge upon
written application made to him the appropriate street numbers. The City Engineer
is hereby authorized to prescribe the form of such application.
