A Police Department is hereby established, which shall consist of the
Chief of Police and such officers, Sergeants, Corporals, Patrolmen First Class
and patrolmen as may be authorized by resolution of the Mayor and Council
from time to time.
Members of the Department aforesaid shall constitute the police force of the city pursuant to §
C4-1B(45) of the Charter of Crisfield and shall have the authority of constables, policemen, law enforcement officers or police officers under the laws of the State of Maryland, as follows: to enforce the laws and ordinances in effect in the city, to investigate violations thereof, to make application for statement of charges, to issue citations, to make lawful arrests, to carry firearms as provided by law and to exercise the authority of conservators of the peace.

Appointments as members of the Department shall be made for a probationary
period, which, in the case of individuals already certified as police officers,
shall continue until 12 months after the date of hiring, and, in the case
of individuals not so certified, shall continue until 12 months after the
date certification is achieved. Policemen so employed may be dropped from
the rolls or discharged, in the discretion of the city, at any time during
the probationary period. At the termination of the probationary period, members
appointed shall continue in their respective employment during their good
behavior and efficiency, subject to the provisions hereof and of the city's
personnel policies and procedures.

A. The Department shall include a canine unit. It shall
be a misdemeanor to interfere with a member of the unit in the performance
of his duties or to harass or injure (mortally or otherwise) the same.
B. The K-9 rules and regulations are approved
as an addendum to the Rules and Regulations of the Department.
