Street signs conforming to City specifications
and the standards of this chapter shall be provided at all intersections
to identify all named public and private streets.
A. In the case of new public or private streets within
subdivision developments, the developer shall provide and install
street signs for each street prior to the sale and/or occupancy of
any dwelling unit within the development which uses that street for
its address.
B. In the case of an existing unnamed public or private
street which shall be assigned a name under the provisions of this
chapter, the City shall provide a street sign at the intersection(s)
of said street with the abutting City (public) street or streets.
C. The City shall maintain street signs at all intersections
of public streets with other cross streets, both public and private.
D. The responsibility for providing and maintaining street
signs at intersections of private streets within a townhouse or condominium
development, shall rest with the homeowners' association.
All street signs within the City shall be uniform,
and shall conform to the standards below:
A. The signs shall be double-faced, flat aluminum 0.08
inch thick, green in background color with white reflective lettering
and a one-half-inch white border.
B. The sign shall be six inches in height (length may
vary with length of street name) with four-inch letters spelling the
street name and modifiers, and two-inch letters indicating the abbreviated
thoroughfare descriptor. All letters on street signs shall be capitals,
and all modifier and descriptor abbreviations shall conform to the
abbreviation standards of the US Postal Service.
C. All signs shall be mounted on round galvanized posts,
2 3/8 inches in diameter and 10 feet in length.
D. All signs shall be mounted at such a height that the
bottom of the sign is no less than seven feet above grade.
All street signs shall be located on diagonally
opposite corners of the intersection on the far right side of the
more heavily traveled street. Sign indicating both intersecting streets
shall be erected at all locations. The signs shall be mounted as close
to the intersection as practicable; in the right-of-way area between
the curb and sidewalk where a sidewalk is present.
Multifamily complexes, mobile home parks, and multitenant commercial complexes which are required to be designated by an official complex name per §
596-3E shall be provided by the property owner with a wall or ground sign, or directory-style wall or ground sign, conforming to the Sign Regulations (Article
IX of Chapter
850, Zoning) which shall identify the property by its official complex name.
