Pursuant to the authority granted by Chapter
124 of the General Statutes, as amended, there is hereby created a
Zoning Board of Appeals for the Town of Canton, with all the powers
and duties specified in said Chapter 124, as amended.

Three alternate members, also referred to as
the "panel of alternates," shall, when seated as provided in § 8-5a
of the General Statutes, have all the powers and duties set forth
in the General Statutes relating to a zoning board of appeals and
its members. The alternate members shall be electors of the Town and
shall not be members of the Zoning Commission. Said three alternate members shall be appointed by the
Board of Selectmen for a term ending January 3, 1960. On or before
January 3, 1960, the Board of Selectmen shall appoint one alternate
member for a term of three years from January 3, 1960, one alternate
member for a term of four years from January 3, 1960, and one alternate
member for a period of five years from January 3, 1960.
