PREAMBLE
We, the proprietors and inhabitants of the Town of Newtown,
being duly qualified electors of the State of Connecticut, and in
the exercise of those privileges, liberties and powers which we have
enjoyed since the eleventh day of October, 1711, in order to preserve
and protect the property and personal well-being and to promote the
individual and general welfare of all our citizens, do hereby declare
that this Charter shall constitute our form of government.
