The following officers shall be elected at each biennial election of voters of the Borough of Newtown and shall serve until the next biennial election and until their successors are elected and have qualified:

Three Burgesses shall be elected at each biennial election of the Borough of Newtown and shall serve until the second biennial election of the Borough following their election and until their successors are elected and has qualified.
At the 1971 and 1973 biennial election of the Borough of Newtown there shall be elected two members of the Zoning Commission and two members of the Zoning Board of Appeals who shall serve until the third biennial election of the Borough following their election and until their successors are elected and have qualified. At the 1975 biennial election of the Borough of Newtown there shall be elected one member of the Zoning Board of Appeals who shall serve until the third biennial election of the Borough following their election and until their successors are elected and have qualified. At the 1977 biennial election and at biennial elections thereafter, there shall be elected to the Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals the same number of members as there are members whose terms are then expiring, who shall serve until the third biennial election of the Borough following their election and until their successors are elected and have qualified.
At each biennial election of the Borough of Newtown there shall be elected one alternate to the Zoning Commission who shall serve until the third biennial election following his election and until his successor is elected and has qualified. The terms of office of the alternate to the Zoning Commission who was elected at the May, 1969 biennial election shall be extended from the 1973 biennial election to the 1975 election.
