The Committee shall consist of five members: The Clinton Fire Chief,
the Captain of the Clinton First Aid and Rescue Squad, the Chairman of the
Clinton Planning Board, the Chairman of the Clinton Roads Committee and the
Chief of Police; or their designees.
The purpose of the Street Name Review Committee is to assist the Town
Council in naming streets existing and proposed. In doing so, the Committee
shall study and review existing streets as well as applications pending or
submitted to the town's Planning Board, with a written report recommending
proposed names or changes in the same to be forwarded to the Mayor and Council.
The Street Name Review Committee shall be guided in its responsibilities according
to the following standards and considerations.
The name or number to be given to any street, road, avenue, plaza, park
site or to any other public place will be authorized and passed by the Town
Council, in resolution and then voted upon and to be published in the local
newspaper and the local citizens will have the opportunity to be heard and
after the reading at a public town meeting for at least two of said meetings,
it will become official and permanent.
The governing body shall decide when and where signs should be located
with the denomination of roads, streets, avenues, boulevards, plazas, park
sites or any other public places that are under the jurisdiction of the municipal
government of the Town of Clinton.
