The terms of office of the Mayor and the Trustees of the Village of
Caledonia shall hereafter be for four years.
Village elections for the election of the Mayor and Trustees shall hereafter
be held biennially on the third Tuesday in March in the even-numbered years.
Notwithstanding the provisions of § 28-2 hereof, an election shall be held on the third Tuesday in March 1975 for the election of those Village Trustees and Mayor regularly elected at the village election in 1975, and the officials elected at such election shall serve for terms commencing upon the expiration of the terms of the incumbents of the respective offices and ending at 12:00 noon on the first Monday in the month following the village election in the fifth calendar year following.
This Article being subject to a permissive referendum as prescribed
by § 3-302, Subdivision 5, of the Village Law, notice of its adoption
by this Board of Trustees shall be published in the official newspaper of
the village within 10 days of its adoption and a printed copy of such notice
shall be conspicuously posted in at least six public places in the village.
The notice published pursuant to § 3-302 of the Village Law
shall read substantially as follows:

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Trustees of the Village of
Caledonia, at a special meeting thereof held on the 21st day of January 1975,
duly adopted a resolution subject to a permissive referendum, an abstract
of which resolution is as follows:

The term for which the Mayor and Trustees of the Village of Caledonia
are elected shall be changed from two to four years commencing at the beginning
of the next official year following the next regular village election.

The Village Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to publish and post
such notice pursuant to the provisions of this Article and the provisions
of the Village Law made and provided.
Sections 28-5, 28-6 and 28-7 of this Article shall take effect immediately and §§ 28-1, 28-2, 28-3 and 28-4 shall not take effect until 30 days after its adoption nor until approved by the affirmative vote of a majority of the qualified electors of such village voting on such proposition for its approval if, within 30 days after its adoption, there is filed with the Village Clerk a petition pursuant to the provisions of § 9-902 of the Village Law.[1]

As authorized by § 3-301, Subdivision 2(c), of the Village
Law of the State of New York, there is hereby established the office of Public
Safety Commissioner in the Village of Caledonia.
The Public Safety Commissioner shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject
to the approval of the Trustees. The appointment to the office shall be made
at the beginning of each official year of the village and shall be for the
term of one year or until a successor is appointed.
The duties of the Public Safety Commissioner are to inspect the various
buildings and other properties, both real and personal, which the Village
of Caledonia owns or controls, for purposes of recommending to the Trustees,
at least annually, measures and methods to prevent citizens from injury on
or with respect to such properties.
The Commissioner of Public Safety shall receive such compensation as
may be fixed from time to time by the Board of Trustees.
