This article is adopted pursuant to the provisions of the Municipal
Home Rule Law of the State of New York.
The term of office of the elected Town Supervisor shall be four years.
Such four-year term shall commence as of the first day of January, following
the first biennial Town election at which the person is elected to such office.
Thereafter, the Town Supervisor shall be elected for a term of four years.
This article is adopted subject to mandatory referendum and shall be
submitted for approval of the qualified voters of the Town of Owego at the
general election to be held on November 7, 2000. A proposition in the following form shall be included on the ballot
at such general election, and the increased term of office shall not take
effect unless such proposition is approved by a majority vote of the qualified
voters voting thereon:
Shall Local Law No. 4-2000, entitled "A local law increasing the term
of office of the Town Supervisor from two to four years," be approved?

This article shall supersede Town Law § 24 relating to the
term of office for the Town Supervisor of the Town of Owego.
This article shall become effective immediately upon filing in the office
of the Secretary of State after approval by the qualified voters.
