Each such meter shall be so constructed as to display a signal showing legal parking for a period of time upon the deposit therein of a coin or coins; said signal shall remain showing until the expiration of the authorized period of time, whereupon a change of signal or some other mechanical operation shall indicate expiration of the authorized parking period.

When any vehicle shall be parked in a space controlled by a meter, the owner or operator of said vehicle shall park within the area designated by the lines marking said space and upon entering said metered parking space shall immediately deposit in said meter the required coin or coins; said metered parking space may then be used by such vehicle during the ensuing authorized period of time.
