The purpose of this chapter is to establish the office of a single appointed Assessor in the Town of South Bristol and to terminate the office of sole elected Assessor.
Pursuant to § 328 of the Real Property Tax Law, the Town Board of South Bristol hereby establishes the office of single appointed Assessor.
The single appointed Assessor shall be appointed by the Town Board of the Town of South Bristol.
The term of office of the single appointed Assessor shall be as provided by § 310 of the Real Property Tax Law.
The office of single appointed Assessor for the Town of South Bristol shall be established to be effective January 1, 2003, at which time the current elected position of Assessor will terminate.
The qualifications for the office of single appointed Assessor shall be the minimum qualifications and standards set forth by the State Office of Real Property Services as of the date of appointment.
This chapter shall be subject to a permissive referendum in the manner described in § 24 of the Municipal Home Rule Law.[1]
