Parking for physically challenged persons and severely disabled veterans may be approved by resolution of the Township Board of Supervisors. Such resolution shall only be considered upon written requests by or on behalf of such persons or veterans to the Township Manager. The request shall fully set forth the reasons or circumstances that prompted the request and shall be accompanied by a letter from a physician supporting such application. The Township Manager shall review all such requests and forward those meriting resolution consideration to the Board of Supervisors. If the Board of Supervisors approves a resolution to establish a restricted parking space, the Township will erect an appropriate "reserved parking" sign with the standard wheelchair symbol along the public street as close as possible to the affected person's residence. The Township will also paint the concrete curbing (if it exists) along the space for a length of 20 feet to help identify the reserved space. The cost of the sign, post, installation and replacement, and curb painting, if necessary, shall be the responsibility of the person requesting the reserved parking space. It is also the responsibility of the person requesting the space, or their heir or designee, to notify the Township office when the reserved space is no longer justified or needed so that the sign and restriction can be removed, which removal shall also be ordered by resolution of the Board of Supervisors. It should be noted that the posting of such a restricted space reserves it for use by any vehicle displaying a valid severely disabled registration, veteran registration plate, handicapped registration plate or handicapped placard. All other vehicles parked in the reserved space will be subject to penalties as provided for herein.
