The Board of Trustees shall designate an individual to serve as the "Code Enforcement Official."
A. 
The Code Enforcement Official shall be considered an official of the Village of Fort Edward.
B. 
The Code Enforcement Official shall:
(1) 
Except as otherwise specifically provided by law or except as herein otherwise provided, administer and enforce all of the provisions of this chapter and the Uniform Code applicable to the plans, specifications or permits for the construction, alteration and repair of buildings and structures, the installation and use of materials and equipment therein and the location, use and occupancy thereof in regard to building construction specifications and fire prevention requirements.

(2) 
Receive applications, approve plans and specifications and issue permits for the erection and alteration of buildings or structures or parts thereof and shall examine the premises for which such applications have been received, plans approved or such permits have been issued, for the purpose of insuring compliance with the code.
(3) 
Make inspections and issue in writing all appropriate notices or orders, including stop orders, to remove illegal or unsafe conditions, to require the necessary safeguards during construction and to ensure compliance during the entire course of construction with the requirements of the code.
(4) 
Make all building construction and fire prevention inspections which are necessary and proper for the carrying out of duties as required by the code.
(5) 
Issue a certificate of occupancy, where appropriate, for a building constructed or altered in accordance with the provisions of the Uniform Code, which shall certify that the building conforms to the requirements of the code.

(6) 
Upon approval by the Board of Trustees, consult with such inspectors, engineers and other consultants as may be necessary in the judgment of the Code Enforcement Official depending on the plans and specifications of a particular project, the costs of which may be charged to the owner or applicant as determined by the Board of Trustees.

In the absence of the Code Enforcement Official, or in the case of his inability to act for any reason, the Mayor of the Village of Fort Edward shall have the power, with the consent of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Fort Edward, to designate a person to act on behalf of the Code Enforcement Official and to exercise all the powers conferred upon him.

The Mayor, with the approval of the Board of Trustees, may appoint one inspector or more, as the need may appear, to act under the supervision and direction of the Code Enforcement Official and to exercise any portion of the powers and duties of the Code Enforcement Official as he may direct. The compensation of such inspector shall be fixed by the Board of Trustees. Reference below in this chapter to "Code Enforcement Official" shall be deemed to include any such inspectors appointed pursuant to this section.
