[Adopted by L.L. No. 1-1983 (Ch. 8 of the 1975 Municipal Code)]
It is hereby declared, pursuant to the authority created by § 30(4) of the Public Officers Law of the State of New York, that it is in the interest of public safety to require members of the Town of Saugerties Police Department to reside within the Town of Saugerties as this requirement will enable members of the Department to respond promptly as needed and be available to render active service in the Town of Saugerties. It is further declared that this requirement will enable members to have a better knowledge of the area and acquaintance with the community.
For the purpose of this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
MEMBERS OF THE TOWN OF SAUGERTIES POLICE DEPARTMENT
Includes but shall not be limited to the Chief of Police, Investigator, dispatchers and all police officers.
RESIDENCE
Domicile.
TOWN OF SAUGERTIES
The area enclosed by the municipal corporation line of the Town of Saugerties including the area of the incorporated Village of Saugerties.
A member of the Town of Saugerties Police Department must be a resident of the Town of Saugerties unless such requirement is waived by the Town Board of the Town of Saugerties as provided for herein. This residency requirement shall be in addition to any and all other requirements imposed by law, rule or regulation regarding service as a member of said department.
Noncompliance with the requirements of this article will be grounds for removal from employment.
