If the Village officials who are authorized to issue appearance
tickets shall deem it to be in the interest of public safety, they
may require the owners or occupants of any lot or premises abutting
any of the highways of the Village to cut, trim or remove tree branches
or limbs, brush, grass, rubbish or weeds sufficient to eliminate the
hazard which is deemed to exist, and, upon demand of said enforcing
authorities, said owners or occupants shall forthwith comply or, in
default thereof, said Village officials may cause such tree branches
or limbs, brush, grass, rubbish or weeds to be cut, trimmed or removed
and charge the expense thereof to such owners or occupants.
Any person committing an offense against any provision of this
article shall, upon conviction thereof, be guilty of a violation pursuant
to the Penal Law of the State of New York, punishable by a fine not
exceeding $250 or by imprisonment for a term not exceeding 15 days,
or by both such fine and imprisonment. The continuation of an offense
against the provisions of this article shall constitute, for each
day the offense is continued, a separate and distinct offense hereunder.
