The Township shall assign street or road numbers to all buildings
(including mobile homes and trailers used for human habitation) in
the Township which have heretofore not been numbered and shall give
notice to the registered owner and to the occupant of each building
of the number so assigned, provided that nothing herein contained
shall be construed to relieve such owner and occupant of the duty
to ascertain such assigned street number.
Every owner and occupant of every building within the Township
shall cause the number so assigned or heretofore assigned to be posted,
painted or carved upon the street side of the building or on the entrance
gatepost or on any permanent structure located between the building
and the street on which it fronts, in such manner that it can be read
during daylight hours from the road or street by persons of normal
vision traveling either direction on said road or street. Nothing
in this chapter shall require a school, church or public building
or other institution to display the assigned number if, in lieu thereof,
a sign is so placed identifying the building which can be read during
daylight hours from the road or street by persons of normal vision.
In all cases of new construction, the Township shall assign
a number at the time the building permit is issued, and such number
shall be displayed no later than the time the building is ready for
use and occupancy.
Any owner or occupant who fails to display or to maintain a street number in accordance with Article
IV of this chapter shall be given notice by the Township Zoning Officer to comply with Article
IV of this chapter, upon failure to comply within the 30 days after said notice, shall be in violation of the provisions of this article and shall, upon summary conviction before a District Justice, be sentenced to pay a fine of not more than $1,000, as well as the costs of prosecution. A new and separate offense shall be deemed to have been committed for each seven days that a violation exists. Such fines shall be collected as like fines and penalties are now by law collected.
