This chapter shall be known and may be cited as the "Germany
Township House Numbering Ordinance."
[Amended at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General
Provisions, Art. I)]
The house number or address of the residence or dwelling shall
be displayed on the house and mailbox. These numbers shall be of contrasting
color to the mailbox and house, shall be no less than four inches
in height, and shall be Arabic numbers or alphabet letters with a
minimum stroke width of 0.5 inch. On mailboxes, the number shall be
displayed on both sides and, on houses, the number shall be affixed
to the house so as to be visible from the roadway. Where a house is
located more than 300 feet from a roadway, the house need not be marked;
however, if more than one house is located on a common drive, all
houses must be marked so as to be visible from the lane or common
drive. Where access is by means of a private road and the building
cannot be viewed from a public way, a monument, pole or other sign
or means shall be used to identify the structure.
Upon notification of noncompliance by the Board of Supervisors,
the notified party shall have 15 days to comply with this chapter.
Notification shall be by certified mail, return receipt requested.
Upon issuance of a building permit, the Township Building Permit
Officer shall inform the person to whom the permit is issued of the
requirements of this chapter.
Residents shall have a period of 30 days from adoption of this
chapter to comply with same.
[Amended at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General
Provisions, Art. I)]
Any person who violates or permits a violation of this chapter
shall, upon being found liable therefor in a civil enforcement proceeding
commenced by the Township before a Magisterial District Judge, pay
a fine of not more than $600, plus all court costs, including reasonable
attorneys' fees, incurred by the Township in the enforcement of this
chapter. No judgment shall be imposed until the date of the determination
of the violation by the Magisterial District Judge. If the defendant
neither pays nor timely appeals the judgment, the Township may enforce
the judgment pursuant to the applicable Rules of Civil Procedure.
Each day a violation exists shall constitute a separate offense. Further,
the appropriate officers or agents of the Township are hereby authorized
to seek equitable relief, including injunction, to enforce compliance
herewith.
