This article shall be known as "the Election
Code of the Village of Bellevue."
The purpose of this article is to exempt the
Village of Bellevue from the provisions of Act No.148 of Public Acts
of 1973 for the election of Village officers, which said election
and all matters pertaining thereto shall be conducted in the manner
prescribed by the former statute for the conduct of regular elections
for Village officers, meaning MSA § 5.1230 through MSA § 5.1242,
as amended.

As authorized by Section 3(1) and (2), Chapter
III of 1895 PA 3, as amended (MCLA §§ 63.1 and 63.2),
Village elections in the Village of Bellevue shall hereafter be nonpartisan.
The Village of Bellevue shall not conduct primary
elections for Village offices.
This article shall apply beginning with the
first Village election for which the nomination deadline is not less
than 30 days after the effective date of this article.
This article shall take effect 45 days after
the date of its adoption, unless a petition signed by not less than
10% of the registered electors of the Village is filed with the Village
Clerk or Village office within such 45 days. If a petition is filed
within such period of time, this article shall then take effect only
upon its approval at the next general Village election or special
Village election held on the question of whether this article shall
be approved. Notice of the delayed effect of this article and the
right of petition under this section shall be published separately
at the same time and in the same manner as this article or a notice
of the ordinance is published in a local newspaper of general circulation.
This article shall be adopted by an affirmative
vote of at least 2/3 of the members of the Village Council.
The Village Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this article and cause the same to be published as required by
law.
