[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Village of West Hampton Dunes 7-1-1995 by L.L. No. 7-1995. Amendments noted where applicable.]
Pursuant to § 10 of the Municipal Home Rule Law, § 2-250 of the Village Law of the State of New York, and the Criminal Procedure and Village Laws of the State of New York, the Village of West Hampton Dunes, County of Suffolk, and State of New York, hereby enacts as Local Law No. 7 of 1995, this chapter entitled "Local Law No. 7 of 1995 of the Incorporated Village of West Hampton Dunes, Creating a Department of Code Enforcement."
This chapter establishes a local law for the purpose of creating a Department of Code Enforcement of the Village of West Hampton Dunes, and to provide for and for the following purposes:
A. 
For the creation of a Department of Code Enforcement of the Village of West Hampton Dunes for the proper and diligent enforcement of the local laws of the Village and the laws and regulations of the Town of Southampton pursuant to § 2-250 of the Village Law.
B. 
To promote, in the public interest, enforcement of the laws set forth in Subsection A above.
C. 
To provide for the safety and well-being of the residents of the Village and visitors to the Village.
D. 
To establish an organized department to establish the security and proper and safe conditions for the interests of the Village.
E. 
For the general safety and well-being of the residents of and visitors to the Village.
A. 
There shall hereby be established a Department of Code Enforcement of the Village of West Hampton Dunes.
(1) 
Director; personnel. The Mayor shall appoint on an annual basis a Director of Code Enforcement, who shall be approved by a majority of the Board of Trustees, and hire such personnel as Code Enforcement Officers as are deemed by the Trustees to be necessary for the proper staffing and functions of the Code Enforcement Department.
(2) 
Functions; duties. The Director of Code Enforcement shall be responsible for the proper management of the Code Enforcement Department, including maintaining of proper files and records, and providing a copy of any summons or appearance tickets issued to the Village Clerk and the Village Court within a reasonable time or such other time as may be established, and the supervision and management of all affairs of the Department, subject to oversight by the Mayor and Trustees, and any other appropriate Village officials.[1]

B. 
The functions and duties of the Department of Code Enforcement Director and personnel shall be to enforce the local laws of the Village and laws of the Town of Southampton as enforced in the Village pursuant to § 2-250 of the Village Law, and to issue appearance tickets, violations, and summonses returnable in the Village Court or such other place as established, required or appropriate, as required for the enforcement of those laws and regulations.
