This chapter shall be entitled "Local Law 1 of 2003 of the Incorporated
Village of West Hampton Dunes, A Local Law Prohibiting Hunting and
Trapping in the Village of West Hampton Dunes."
Pursuant to § 10 of the Municipal Home Rule Law and
the Village Law of the State of New York, the Incorporated Village
of West Hampton Dunes, County of Suffolk, and State of New York, hereby
enacts by this chapter a local law of the Village of West Hampton
Dunes.
The Board of Trustees of the Village of West Hampton Dunes hereby
determines and finds that due to the development of the Village the
increase in the number and density of residents, families and their
guests residing in and enjoying their properties, as well as the Village
and its assets, and the proximity of their homes and properties, that
hunting and trapping of all types imposes a severe hazard and threat
to the health, safety and welfare of the residents of the Village,
and their families and guests, and that it is in the best interests
of the Village, its residents and property owners to adopt a local
law establishing regulations prohibiting hunting and trapping in the
Village of West Hampton Dunes.
The purpose and intent of this chapter is to protect the health,
safety and well-being of the residents of the Village of West Hampton
Dunes, and their residents, families and guests, through the banning
of hunting and trapping in the Village of West Hampton Dunes.
Hunting and trapping of all types is hereby prohibited within
the Village of West Hampton Dunes.
There shall be a fine of $250 for each violation of this chapter,
plus such other penalty as a court of competent jurisdiction shall
deem just and proper.
