The hawking, peddling or soliciting of orders for goods, wares
or merchandise of any kind is prohibited unless licensed.
The license shall be issued by the Village Clerk or Village
police officer and numbered to correspond with a stub to be kept in
a bound book, stating the name and address of the licensee, date of
issue and kind of goods to be sold. The license fee shall be as set
from time to time by resolution of the Board of Trustees, payable
in advance. The Clerk shall countersign the license and the license
shall be carried by the licensee and exhibited to officials or residents
of the Village on request.
The license shall not be transferable. A licensee who permits
another person to use the same or who violates any other Village ordinances
shall forfeit the same. Licenses may be revoked for cause by the Board
by service of the notice of revocation personally or by mailing to
the address stated on the stub, in which event revocation is effective
24 hours after mailing the same. The Mayor or Deputy Mayor may suspend
a license until the next meeting of the Board in the same manner as
revocation.
At points where all roads intersect the Village line, conspicuous
signs shall be erected on the right side of the street entering the
Village, reading: "Peddler's License Required."
Any person, persons, firm or corporation violating any section
of this chapter shall be punishable by a fine of not more than $250
or by imprisonment for not more than 15 days, or both such fine and
imprisonment. The continuation of an offense against the provisions
of this chapter shall constitute, for each day the offense is continued,
a separate and distinct violation hereunder.
