The Board of Registrars of Voters shall consist of three persons,
appointed by the Mayor, plus the Town Clerk, who shall serve ex officio.
The Mayor shall so appoint the Board as nearly as possible so that
the members of the Board shall represent the two leading political
parties, as defined in MGL c. 50, § 1, provided that the
Town Clerk need not be enrolled in a political party, and provided,
further, that in no case shall an appointment be made as to cause
a Board to have more than two members, including the Town Clerk, of
the same political party.
The members of the Board of Registrars shall serve for indefinite
terms, with the exception of the Town Clerk, who shall serve as long
as said person holds the office of Town Clerk.
The Board of Registrars of Voters shall supervise the qualification
of persons to vote, certify the signatures on nomination papers and
petitions, and shall hold hearings and decide disputes with regard
to any of the foregoing matters.
