The purpose of the Commission is to raise awareness of issues affecting
women and families and to advocate for women and families in order
to assist them in attaining the best quality of life for themselves
and their families.
The members shall represent a cross section of the County and shall
be selected because of their known experience and active interest
in women's and family issues and the purposes of the Commission.
The County Executive, in accordance with the Charter, shall appoint
the initial members of the Commission from a list supplied by the
Task Force for the Study and Formation of a Cecil County Commission
for Women. Thereafter, the County Executive shall appoint members
from recommendations made by organizations and agencies in the County
dedicated to improving the quality of life for the citizens of Cecil
County.
For the initial establishment of the first Commission, 1/3 of the
members shall serve for one year, 1/3 for two years, and 1/3 for three
years. Thereafter, the terms of all members shall be three years.
A member of the Commission who is appointed after a term has begun
serves only for the rest of the term and until a successor is appointed
and qualifies.
The Commission shall select from its own membership a Chairperson,
Vice-Chairperson, and Secretary-Treasurer, each to serve at the pleasure
of the Commission.
