In accordance with Article 2, Section
2-10 and Article 3, Section
3-3 and Article 23, paragraph 7 of the City Charter enacted by Chapter 72 of the Acts of 2013, the Mayor shall appoint a director of veterans' service, who shall serve from the date of his/her appointment until his/her successor shall be duly appointed and qualified. The Director may be removed at the sole discretion of the Mayor.

In accordance with Article 2, Section
2-10 and Article 3, Section
3-3 and Article 23, paragraph 7 of the City Charter enacted by Chapter 72 of the Acts of 2013, the mayor shall fill any vacancy of the director of veterans’ service.

The duties, powers and functions of the director of veterans’
service shall be the same as those of the former director of state
aid and soldiers’ relief until changed according to law. He
shall investigate all petitions for veterans’ service and act
upon the same in accordance with law and with whatever authority and
discretion may be conferred upon him by the city council or by the
commissioner of veterans’ services of the commonwealth.

The department of which the Director of Veterans’ Service
is the head shall be designated as the Department of Veterans’
Services.
A clerk-investigator shall be employed in such Department.
