In accordance with the City Charter, Article 2, Section 2-10, and Article 3, Section 3-3, and Section 23, Subsection (7), the Mayor shall appoint a Director of Veterans' Service, who shall serve from the date of appointment until a successor shall be is duly appointed and qualified. The Director may be removed at the sole discretion of the Mayor.

In accordance with the City Charter, Article 2, Section 2-10, and Article 3, Section 3-3, and Section 23, Subsection (7), the Mayor shall fill any vacancy of the Director of Veterans' Service.

The duties, powers and functions of the Director of Veterans' Service shall be the same as those of the former director of state aid and soldiers' relief until changed according to law. The Director shall investigate all petitions for veterans' service and act upon the same in accordance with law and with whatever authority and discretion may be conferred upon the Director by the City Council or by the Commissioner of Veterans Services of the commonwealth.
