There is hereby established a uniform system of numbering in
the Village of Dannemora and all streets, avenues and public ways
in the Village of Dannemora and all houses and buildings shall be
numbered in accordance with the provisions of this chapter.
For the purpose of facilitating a correct numbering, a Village
map of all streets, avenues and public ways within the Village showing
the proper numbers of all lots or houses fronting upon all streets,
avenues or public ways shall be kept on file in the office of the
Village Clerk.
It shall be the duty of the Village Clerk to inform any party
applying therefor of the number or numbers belonging or embraced within
the limits of each lot or property as provided in this chapter. In
case of doubt as to the proper numbers to be assigned to any lot or
building, the Clerk shall determine the number of such lot or building.
Whenever any house, building or structure shall be erected or
located in the Village of Dannemora after the entire work of establishing
a uniform system of house numbering has been completed, the owner
or occupant of such building or structure, in order to preserve the
continuity and uniformity of numbers as designated from the Village
Clerk for the said property, shall immediately fasten the said number
or numbers so assigned upon said building as provided by this Chapter.
It shall be the duty of the police officer of the Village of
Dannemora to report violations of any provision of this chapter.
If any owner, occupant or agent of any building required to
be numbered by this chapter shall neglect for the period of 20 days
to duly attach and maintain the proper numbers on such building, the
Village Clerk shall cause to be served upon such owner, occupant or
agent a notice requiring such owner, occupant or agent to properly
number the same, and if the person so served neglects to so for 10
days after this service of such notice, such neglect shall constitute
an offense punishable, upon conviction thereof, by a fine of not more
than $250 or imprisonment for not more than 15 days, or both, and
each day's continuation of a violation shall constitute a separate
offense.
