The Town Board recognizes that certain privately owned complexes utilized by the town's citizens for residential or commercial use are in need of regulation to prevent vehicles from blocking access to these facilities for fire and emergency vehicles.
Pursuant to § 1660-a of the Vehicle and Traffic Law of the State of New York, which grants this Board the power to act upon request of the property owner or the respective Fire Chief, we now enact this Article in order to protect the safety of the public.
It shall be the duty and obligation of the appropriate police agency to enforce the provisions of this Article.
The Town Highway Department shall post and maintain appropriate official signs at the locations cited in Schedules XXIV, XXV and XXVI of this Traffic Code.
The owner of the affected property shall mark the pavement or curb with paint at the sites contained in Schedules XXIV, XXV, and XXVI of this chapter, and such markings shall be in accordance with commonly accepted practices for marking fire lanes or fire zones.
The locations described in Schedule XXIV (§ TC24-68), attached to and made a part of this Traffic Code, are hereby designated as fire lanes.
The locations described in Schedule XXV (§ TC25-69), attached to and made a part of this Traffic Code, are hereby designated as Class A Fire Zones.
The locations described in Schedule XXVI (§ TC26-70), attached to and made a part of this Traffic Code, are hereby designated as Class B Fire Zones.
