No person shall keep or harbor any animal in the Village of
Great Neck Estates except as specifically authorized in this chapter
or unless such animal is of a domesticated species customarily kept
in connection with a residential household.
A. For the purposes of this article, the following species of animals
are considered to be customarily kept in connection with a residential
household: dogs; cats; tropical birds such as canaries, parakeets,
parrots and myna birds; guinea pigs; gerbils; hamsters; white mice;
turtles other than snapping turtles; tropical fish; and nonpoisonous
snakes, or other species determined by the Code Official to be similar
in nature and habitat to the foregoing species.
B. Animals which are typically kept or maintained outdoors or outside
a dwelling, including but not limited to horses, poultry or livestock,
are not considered domesticated species pursuant to this article,
and no person shall keep or harbor such animals in the Village.
