Section 117, Subdivision 4, of the Agriculture and Markets Law
of the State of New York provides for impound fees with respect to
dogs which are not identified and which are held by the Dog Control
Officer of the Town of Cochecton. The Town Board of the Town of Cochecton
has determined that the fees provided for in said § 117,
Subdivision 4, of the Agriculture and Markets Law are insufficient
to cover the cost to the Town for boarding and maintaining dogs until
such time as the dogs are either redeemed by their owner or made available
for adoption or euthanized by the Town Dog Control Officer or by his
designated agent. The foregoing is especially true with respect to
dogs subject to the first impoundment, whereby the fee is only $10,
regardless of the number of days in which the dogs are maintained.
