[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Montour Falls as indicated in article histories. Amendments noted where applicable.]
[Adopted 12-13-2012 by L.L. No. 4-2012]
This local law is adopted pursuant to § 3-302(5) and (7) of the Village Law. The intent of the Board of Trustees in adopting this article is to extend the time in office of elected public officials and to eliminate the necessity to conduct a general Village election every year.
The terms of office of the Mayor and of all trustees of the Village of Montour Falls are hereby extended to four years, as herein provided.
Commencing in 2014, general elections for the Village of Montour Falls shall be held biennially in even-numbered years.
Pursuant to Village Law § 3-302(7)(b), the successor to the Mayor and any trustee whose term of office expires in 2013 shall, at the 2013 general election, be elected to a single three-year term, and their successors shall thereafter be elected for terms of four years.
This article shall take effect immediately upon filing with the Secretary of State, but shall not take effect less than 30 days prior to the 2013 general election; provided, however, that this article is subject to a permissive referendum and the Village Clerk shall forthwith proceed to notice such fact and conduct such referendum if required by petition.
