There is hereby created the office of Chief of Police who shall
be appointed to serve a term of one (1) year or until his/her successor
be duly appointed and qualified. Said appointment shall be made by
the Mayor with the approval of the Board of Aldermen. Any person so
appointed shall be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and qualified
as a commissioned peace officer under the provisions of Chapter 590,
RSMo.

The Chief of Police shall perform all duties required of a City
Marshal for a Fourth Class City as set forth in the laws and Statutes
of the State of Missouri and the ordinances of the City of New Haven,
Missouri.

No person shall be appointed Chief of Police who at the time
of appointment shall be in arrears for any unpaid City taxes or forfeiture
or defalcation in office.

The Chief of Police shall at the expiration of his/her term
of office or at the time of his/her resignation or removal from office
make a full and complete settlement with the Board of Aldermen, accounting
for all monies collected or handled by him/her during his/her term
of office and the Chief of Police shall also account for such funds
to the City Treasurer. Upon the Police Chief's failure to make the
accountings required by this Section within five (5) days of the date
vacating office, his/her bond shall be declared forfeited and an action
may be instituted for the collection of the penalty thereof.
