A. Qualifications. The City Attorney shall be at least thirty
(30) years of age, a licensed and practicing attorney and shall have
been so licensed to practice for not less than five (5) years prior
to his/her appointment.
B. Powers And Duties. The City Attorney shall prosecute or
defend as the case may require all suits in which the City is interested,
representing the City generally in all matters of law; draw all contracts,
ordinances and legal documents which may be required of him/her by
the Board of Aldermen; give his/her opinion in matters of law in which
the City is interested and perform such other services incident to
his/her office as may be required of him/her by the Board or any officers
of the City.
C. Vacancy In Office, Etc. — Compensation For Special Counsel. The Mayor and the Board of Aldermen may by ordinance employ a special
counsel to represent the City or assist the City Attorney in case
of vacancy in the office of the City Attorney or for any other good
cause shown. Such person shall receive a reasonable compensation to
be provided by ordinance or resolution.
