The Board of Aldermen shall elect a Clerk for such Board, to
be known as "the City Clerk," whose duties and term of office shall
be fixed by ordinance. Among other things, the City Clerk shall keep
a journal of the proceedings of the Board of Aldermen. He/she shall
safely and properly keep all the records and papers belonging to the
City; he/she is hereby empowered to administer official oaths and
oaths to persons certifying to demands or claims against the City.
Before entering upon the duties of his/her office, he/she shall give
bond in the amount of one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000.00).
The Board of Aldermen shall elect a Clerk for such Board annually
by ordinance.

He/she shall have custody of the City Seal, the original ordinances
and resolutions of the Board of Aldermen, and all other records, books
and papers belonging to the City which may be committed to his/her
charge and see that they are safely kept; he/she shall attest and
affix the City Seal to all instruments, commissions or official acts
of the Board of Aldermen, when required by law, ordinance or order
of the Mayor or Board of Aldermen, and he/she shall do such other
acts as may be required by the ordinances of the City.

It shall be the duty of the City Clerk to keep in a suitable
book a complete and perfect record of all ordinances passed by the
Board of Aldermen which become laws and a record of all resolutions
and official acts of the Board.

In the absence of the City Clerk the Board of Aldermen may appoint
a Clerk Pro Tem who shall possess the same qualifications and perform
all the duties of the Clerk.
